Become a punk or slip on the rocks. the raw energy and unapologetic spirit of punk dance in this workshop designed for contemporary dancers. Inspired by the rebellious ethos of punk culture and its intersection with contemporary movement, this workshop explores how physical expression can disrupt predictability and challenge norms.

Examples are, extreme throwing movements, energetic shake (durational to awake the nervous system and senses). Crossing the space and going in circles, with a bent body, active legs and arm kicks. Taking the sound and sending it to the space with the movement, or, how to scream the movement? We will embrace punk's defiance by rejecting traditional dance boundaries and exploring nonbinary approaches to movement. The workshop reflects a commitment to social change. As a choreographer my main focus is to create transdisciplinary works that echo punk's anti-establishment ethos My teaching focuses on trust through interruptions and transformations in movement, allowing dancers to experiment with spontaneity while exploring their physical limits, examines how these elements shape the body and its movements Unpredictability: embraces risk, uncertainty, and tension in workshops process, fostering an environment where abstraction meets physicality Intense and transformative: the training is characterized by openness, impurity, and intensity, often pushing performers to their physical limits.

Movement Exploration: including angular movements, syncopated rhythms, and visceral decision making. We will discover how punk dance embraces spontaneity and individuality while maintaining a strong connection to the body’s impulses. Somatic Identity: Investigate how identity affects the somatic reality of the body. How does a neutral body become charged with meaning in performance? Explore themes such as femininity, rebellion, and self-expression within the context of dance. Improvisation & group: Engage in non-linear narratives and abstract movement patterns that reflect punk’s chaotic yet purposeful nature. Collaborate with fellow dancers/participants to create a shared palette of movement inspired by punk ideals. The warm up is based on exercises from ‘punk ballerina’ Karole Armitage. We will approach the body as a dynamic, multifaceted medium— simultaneously political, organic, and cultural.
